The Works of Christopher Buecheler

The day is finally here! Let's get right to it.

Possessed Is Now Available - eBook and Print!

This is my first new book release in several years, and I think it's worth the wait. It's fast, funny, and super compelling (don't trust just me - everyone who's read it loves it)! Both the print and eBook editions are gorgeous, the most well-crafted books I've ever put together. Go buy it!

Note that regardless of country, the book is in English. All of these editions are identical. Not sure where to buy? I hate to say it, but Amazon helps me the most by far.

eBook - $3.99 US

Print - $12.99 US

This gorgeous 6"x9" trade paperback edition can only be bought via Amazon at the moment, sorry! If there's demand for other print options, I'll do my best to put something together. You can also order signed copies for a very limited time (till July 5th). I will ship anywhere in the world but please note that the shipping prices outside of the US and France are, well, insane. If you want to pay fifty bucks to ship a book, I won't stop you, but I wouldn't! 😅

Still here? I hope you're returning after going and buying your shiny new copy of Possessed! But if you still need a little more convincing, or you'd just like to know a bit more about the book, let's get to those final two characters, shall we?

Possessed - Meet the Characters: Dylan and Kim

Last month we met Matthias, the antagonist, and Shannon, Amber's best friend. Next up, we're going to learn a little about her next-best friend and about the young woman she encounters who starts to turn her life upside down.

Character portraits by the wonderfully talented Alexandria Neonakis.

Dylan is a white male in his early twenties with light brown hair, long, currently pulled back in a man-bun or ponytail. He's got prominent eyebrows above brown eyes, a medium-sized nose, and full lips. He has a short brown beard. There is a leather cord hanging from his neckDylan might be judging you a little.

Dylan serves as Matthias's second in command for a variety of reasons. For one thing, he has his shit a little bit more together than the average member of Satan's Children. For another, he's a little stronger in his belief in the occult than the others. For a third, he's very interested in seeing what kind of social change could be enacted via powers beyond those humans are capable of.

Friendly, chill, and into death metal, Dylan is close with all of the remaining members of the cult, but closest with Amber and Shannon. Amber would love to date him, but Dylan's into dudes with chest hair, and she's neither the former, nor has the latter.

She'd tell him about Jayuul, of course, in an instant ... except the first time Jayuul laid eyes on Dylan, the demon started screaming at her not to mention him. Something about the necklace Dylan wears makes Jayuul not trust him.

But that's crazy, right? Dylan's her friend. He's kept no secrets from her.

Quotes & Scenes

“He’s already been there for like an hour.” Amber pulled over to the side of the road and grabbed her phone.

“Dude, what the shit?” Dylan’s voice was mildly distorted by the amount of crowd noise in the bar. Apparently the place was jumping.

“Sorry! I got … sidetracked?”

“With what? This place is full of fifty year-old women who won’t stop hitting on me and it’s getting really tedious. There’s like seven hundred thousand of them and their hair is all *so big*.”

“Did you just say I’m going to *meet* her?” Dylan asked. He sounded like a kid who’s been told he’s going to Disney World but hasn’t yet accepted it as true.

“Yes. Do you have work today?”

“No, I quit that shit this morning. Going to take a week off and then find something that doesn’t involve me refolding the same shirt eight hundred times a day after dudes take it off the shelf, look at it, and then leave it lying on a pair of jeans. When can I meet Kim? Can she hear this? Hi Kim!”

“Hi Dylan!” Kim called back, then laughed at Amber’s glare of disapproval.

“Don’t encourage … each other,” Amber said.

Dylan came to about three minutes from the hospital, looked up woozily from the backseat, and said, “Where are we? What happened?”

Amber looked over her shoulder. “We’re taking you to the hospital because what happened is, Raymond stabbed you.”

Dylan seemed to give this a great deal of thought before reaching a conclusion. “Fuckin’ Raymond.”

Kim is a woman in her early twenties. She has long dark hair and large green eyes edging toward turquoise. She's tanned and fit, with full pink lips. She's looking at the camera and smiling a bit.Yeah, sure ... we can take a selfie

Kim grew up starring in commercials for her father's furniture business, and as a result gets recognized around southern Florida more than she'd like. She's in her final year at the University of Miami, studying business. Not that she intends to take over the furniture empire; she wants to run a tech startup.

She doesn't know Amber. Or Dylan. Or any of the members of Satan's Children. But she becomes familiar with them after she wakes up to find herself tied up in the trunk of Matthias's car. While Amber gets her out of that terrifying situation, they soon find themselves in several more.

Kim's a straightforward, take charge kind of girl who knows how to use her looks, her celebrity, and her brains and is used to the privileges money brings. For all that, she's good natured, and strikes up a quick friendship not only with Amber, but with Dylan as well.

She also thinks Amber is very cute.

Quotes & Scenes

“Gmmm-mmmf-hmmm!” The girl cried through the scarf. She started to thrash around, displacing the shit Matthias kept in his trunk – jumper cables, an ice scraper for some reason, a bunch of plastic bags.

“Hey. Hey! You need to … just stop! You’re going to hurt yourself.”

“Grrrmmmfffmmmhrrrr!” the girl screamed, her eyes somehow going even wider. There was still terror in them, but rage was rising there as well. Amber didn’t need a translation to get the gist: *get me the fuck out of here*!

“I thought I was going to die!” The sobs were dying down a little. “I thought he was going to lock me in a pit in his basement and make a jacket out of my skin.”

Something about the specificity of that caused laughter to come leaping up out of Amber, and she had to bite her tongue so hard to keep from cackling that she nearly drew blood. She turned the laugh into a cough, instead. “I think it was your blood he was interested in, not your skin.”

“Oh, well, that’s *way* better.”

Kim looked out the side window. Or perhaps she was looking at her own reflection, at the bright red abrasions on her neck that were already bruising up. “Okay. Next question. Was that guy casting fucking *spells*, or am I going crazy?”

That one was easy. “He was definitely casting spells.”

“Why is there like *zero* surprise in your voice?”

“You remember how I told you that two weeks ago, my ideas about what was bullshit mumbojumbo and what wasn’t kinda … shifted a little?”

“I think this brings me to my next question,” Kim said.

“You want to know if I’m really possessed.”

“I truly, *deeply* want to know if you’re really possessed. Yes.”

That's about it for this month. The next time you hear from me, it will be because Possessed is officially released! I'm super excited to get the book into your hands, and I can't wait to hear what you think of it.

See you then!
